Burrator to Crazywell Pool, Princetown to S Hessary Tor

Today we were going to follow a walk outlined in "Dartmoor with an all terain buggy" .We parked the car at Norsworthy Bridge at the edge of Burrator Reservoir.

River Meavy above Norsworthy Bridge

We took the path up at the side of the plantation.  It was a clear path, but stony and I would not have liked to push a buggy up this path.  We gradually walked up hill and after some time we could look back over Burrator.

It was unfortunate that it was a cloudy day and the views were not that clear.  Once we had left the plantation gorse and heather was out at the side of the path bringing colour to the moor.

We turned off the path and walked up to Crazywell Pool, which also had gorse and heather growing around it.

It was then a short walk across to Crazywell Cross which was the furthest point of the walk

We then retraced our steps until a junction in the path which we took and headed downhill to Leathertor Bridge, which was a very pretty spot.

At this point we could have followed the River Meavy back to Norsworthy Bridge, but we continued on the path to Cross Gate and then followed the road down to Burrator and back to our car.

We ate our lunch at Norsworthy Bridge and then walked up the River Meavy a short way to admire the water tumbling over the stones.

We then drove on to Princetown to tackle another walk in the book.  We set out from Princetown aiming to see the Nun's Cross.  The directions were to walk along the road out of Princetown towards the Whiteworks.  Although this was a very quiet road it did not make for very interesting walking.  I kept thinking I could be driving rather than walking.  There were far reaching views of the moors but it was grey and there was not anything in the foreground of interest to see.  After more than 2 km of walking down this road we came to a path off which we could see would lead us to further along the walk, but missing Nun's Cross, but we decided that this was preferable.  As we headed back in the opposite direction on a path the walk became somewhat more interesting.  Soon in the distance we saw South Hessary Tor with its granite top.

Once we had passed that we could see across to Princetown and the prison and soon we were back in our car.
